During the first week of March, we are excited to celebrate Read Across America. We are looking forward to seeing which books students choose to read! Daylight savings is on Sunday, March 9, 2025. Don’t forget to set your clocks back. Although we lose an hour of sleep, we gain more daylight during the day. A sure sign that warmer weather will be here shortly!
On March 3, 2025, we will have the grand opening of Cinderella’s Closet at Haverhill High School! Cinderella’s Closet is here to help make your prom night extra special. Whether you’re looking for the perfect dress, tuxedo, or accessories, we’ve got you covered – all for FREE! Cinderella’s Closet is open every Monday after school until 4:00 PM or by appointment with an HHS staff member. Please spread the word, and let’s make prom dreams come true!

Career Technical Education Freshmen in the Information Technology and Computer Science & Web Development programs were fortunate to have Tim Howard, President and CEO of RMON Networks share his experiences with them. He shared his career path and how he started and built his own business. Tucker is the amazing comfort dog at Nettle School; he helps brighten our students’ day by providing stress relief and offering unconditional support whenever needed. Tucker is always sharing his big heart!

Chromebook Repair Interns from the CTE Computer Science and Information Technology programs. They’ve been hard at work, gaining hands-on experience while assisting the Haverhill Public Schools IT Department. From diagnosing issues to repairing Chromebooks, they’ve played a vital role in keeping student technology up and running!

Curriculum Department
February is American Heart Association Month and on Friday, February 7, 2025, our Curriculum Department participated in National Wear Red Day to raise awareness of heart disease, the leading cause of death in the United States. Whether learning more about heart disease or academics, they sure have the power to make a difference in our student’s lives!
Tilton Elementary School
Congratulations to these Tigers! They are the Tilton Elementary iReady Winners. These students made 50% of their stretch growth to earn a scratch ticket for a special prize. Ten golden tickets will be awarded during lunch and a slime activity.

HILLIE SHOUT OUT to Brian Story! Brian is the 2025 MIAA Division 1 North Sectional Champion in the 500 Freestyle. Brian, a Junior, claimed the sectional title with a time of 4:43.79. Congratulations Brian!
School Counseling Department
The HHS Counseling Department offered seniors without post-secondary plans and/or students who wanted to learn about work opportunities in the community a chance to attend a presentation by Keith Boucher, MakeIT Haverhill, and Yevette Garcia from MassHire Merrimack Valley Workforce Board. They encouraged students to gain confidence, explore their interests and abilities, and connect with them to obtain career services and job coaching and to seek opportunities for employment and training to take the next step in their futures. The HHS Career Technical Education and Counseling/Early College Department will host an in-school job fair for students in March and a college and trade school fair in April. Resume writing workshops will be held soon in collaboration with the MassHire Youth Workforce Board, as they offer many in-school activities for our students.

HILLIE SHOUT OUT to Madeline Goncalves! Madeline took first place in the Shot Put at the 2025 MIAA Division 1 State Championship. The senior threw 41-08 to claim the state championship, beating the nearest competitor by over two feet. Goncalves holds the school record in the shot put with a throw of 43 feet earlier in the season.

If your child will be 5 years old by August 31, 2025, you can register early starting February 1, 2025. Deadline for early registration is May 1, 2025.

Our Hillies are dominating the Winter Sports Season! Lauren Downer finished in first place in the 1000-meter run at the 2025 MIAA Division 1 State Championship. The senior finished in 2:54.08, breaking her own school record. She also holds the indoor track school record in the 600 Meter Run. Let’s Go, Lauren!!!

Career Technical Education Healthcare Occupations Sophomores had the opportunity to visit Merrimack College. Students attended an information session and heard about the offerings provided there and then received a walking tour throughout the campus, with a special focus on their healthcare building and simulation labs. The day ended with lunch provided by Merrimack College in Sparky’s Place and many smiling faces! Thank you Merrimack College for an amazing visit!

Align Credit Union stopped by Tilton Elementary School last week to donate bags of birthday supplies, including birthday cake fixings, to students who need birthday cheer! Bradford Elementary recently held its 3rd Annual. Winterfest: Glow Edition! Pizza, Snacks, Experience Raffle, 50/50 Raffle, and Face-Painting are among some of the activities. HILLIE SHOUT OUT TO MATTHEW HARROLD! Matthew Harrold took home the 2025 MIAA Division 1 State Championship title. The junior dominated the event, winning all four matches on his way to earning his second straight state championship. Congratulations Matt!
Career Technical Education
Mrs. Johnston’s Biomedical Science classes were visited by Biobus New England on February 13th. Students were taken on a voyage of discovery with two scientists – invertebrate neuroscientist Alice Chou and paleoclimatologist Bella Duati. They learned how to focus and use two powerful microscopes to see living protists. It was fun to watch the various styles of movement of the many creatures. In addition students had an opportunity to ask the experts about both lab research and field work. It was a great adventure on a tiny scale! We are grateful to Biobus for such an exciting and interactive visit!

STATE CHAMPS IN THE HOUSE!
Lauren Downer and Madeline Goncalves added to their impressive accomplishments last week when they claimed the MIAA Division 1 State Championships in their respective events. Both added All-State Titles over the weekend, winning their events at the MIAA Meet of Champions, which included schools from all divisions in the state.
Downer won the 1000-meter run, finishing in 2:52.63. Goncalves took home the shot put title with a throw of 41-03.

Haverhill SEPAC Virtual Information Night – Transition to Adulthood
On March 25, 2025, Haverhill SEPAC will welcome Matt Scanlon, Special Education Supervisor & Transition Specialist from Haverhill Public Schools, and Andrea Morris, Director of Family Support Center & Advocacy from The Arc of Greater Haverhill, Newburyport, for a virtual information night to learn about the transition to adulthood process for students with disabilities. Registration is required to attend. Please register using the QR link in the flyers attached here (in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, and Portuguese in PDF and PNG formats) or visit their website. We also welcome questions ahead of time or requests for information to be covered. As this is a virtual meeting – we will only ask for translators if a request is made specifically for that purpose.
Career Technical Education
Career Technical Education Seniors in the Information Technology and Computer Science & Web Development programs presented their Capstone projects. These projects are the culmination of their four years in the CTE program. Students select a topic that is important to them, research and create a deliverable. It was amazing to hear what they accomplished and we are so proud of them!
Middle School History!
Recently, 40 middle school students from Consentino, Hunking, Nettle, and Whittier Middle Schools attended 2-day trainings from the Anne Frank Museum through the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam and the Anne Frank Center at the University of South Carolina. During the training, students learned to become student museum docents (guides) for the Anne Frank: A History for Today exhibit that will travel to each middle school in March and April. We are so proud of these student-leaders who have shown a strong commitment to sharing the lessons of genocide with their peers and the community.
The exhibit will be at Consentino Middle School from March 3-14, Nettle Middle School from March 17-28, Hunking Middle School from March 31-April 11, and Whittier Middle School from April 14-May 2 (school vacation in between).
Keep an eye out for Community Nights at each school, where families can tour the exhibit in person!

Juniors in the Career Technical Education Engineering/Manufacturing program were fortunate to visit Lindt on Valentine’s Day! Students learned how chocolate is made and toured the facility where they saw advanced manufacturing in action, including robots and autonomous vehicles. Another great learning opportunity for our students! Special thanks to Randy Bolduc at Lindt for coordinating the day and hosting our students.

Haverhill High School will be hosting a Job Fair on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, for ALL high school students! If you are looking for a job this is your chance to meet with many of our Community Partners!
Tilton Elementary School
Students in Ms. Buccini’s Class at Tilton Elementary have been working on their Wit and Wisdom curriculum. In Lesson 1 of Module 3, The Grandfathers journey with their whisper phones. Students are learning all about immigration.
Device Waiver Fee
As part of the District’s 1:1 initiative, every Haverhill Public Schools student receives a HPS-issued Chromebook. HPS offers the opportunity to protect school-issued devices for the school year by paying a Device Waiver Fee. As outlined in the HPS Student Technology Device Policy, this $20 fee will help to cover the costs of potential damage, repair, or loss for the school year for the assigned device. Shout out to Miss DeAvila’s Class at Tilton Elementary! They had the best attendance for January. It was a beautiful attendance breakfast, including breakfast bread, and SK made homemade chocolate chip muffins.

The Haverhill School Committee is offering 2 Scholarships for 2025 Haverhill High School Graduates;
The Nicholas Johnson Fund and The Samuel & Bessie Milhendler College Scholarship Fund
Each year, preferably but not necessarily upon the recommendation of the Principal of Haverhill High School, the Haverhill School Committee shall award scholarship funds to one or more graduates of Haverhill High School who are enrolled in and attending any college or university and who are maintaining a credible academic standing; such scholarship shall not be limited to freshman year students. The selection of recipients for scholarship funds to aid in defraying expenses of obtaining a college or graduate education should be based on need, high scholarship standards in high school, and deportment while in said high school.
