ELPAC
The English Language Parent Advisory Council (ELPAC) is a group of parents, guardians, and educators that come together to help the school district to better understand the needs of their students and to help us improve educational outcomes for them.
ELPACs helps:
- Connect families and schools.
- Give advice to school leaders and schools on topics that are important to multilingual learners.
- Support students’ success.
- Parents to better understand the system and to be able to have a voice in the system.
Family Literacy
The Family Literacy program offers free English classes for parents and activities for their children ages 5-12. The program provides the opportunity for parents to increase their English skills and computer literacy skills, and learn about HPS websites and parent portals. Children of participants have teacher-directed homework support and enrichment activities. Parents and students will connect for 30 minutes at the end of the session once every 2 weeks.
Parent Liaisons
Parent Liaisons work in every school in our district and ensure that multilingual parents are able to communicate with school staff. Every school has a bilingual Spanish Parent Liaison. For parents who speak other languages, we also have staff, in and out of district, who are able to interpret and translate.
